Nobody disagrees that drones may deliver information, which per se may be helpful. But I am still missing an outlook at the potential harm the use of drones can have for the movement at hand. As I explained here, ( http://irevolution.net/2012/02/10/drones-for-human-rights/#comment-11748 ) backfire /jiu jitsu will only work under certain circumstances and the information (image) itself is just one factor and drones are likely to counteract on the others.

I personally liked tactics 12 & 18 (and have seen 18 done with normal plane models) I can imagine 31 (haunting) & 194 (disclosing agents). But I would be very careful with anything involving close up movements or even air raids. Having a drone fly close feels to me like bringing a toy-gun to a demonstration. Non-lethal is not automatically non-violent.

I liked the part about gossip. In Belarus we worked on several ways to overcome the informational blockade of the government media. While our main tool are mass leaflets, we also held workshop-sessions on gossip with activists. It should be noted also that Lukashenko several times personally and publicly denounced some gossips and threatened to punish the spreading of gossip.

The use of "earth-technology stickers" on the other hand is a definitely mistake. Any regime would easily exploit this as a proof that the "movement" is nothing but a bunch of collaborators. It is the major flaw of WASP that the Sirian intelligence is confronted with hundreds of clues for terranean involvement in the wave of rebellions, but never encourages public anger against the enemy infiltratedness of the DAG.

Comment on What Does a Wasp Have To Do With Civil Resistance? Everything. by Bjoern Kunter

I just read the book, trying to understand where to see the link to civil resistance and non-violent actions. It was a nice read, but besides that the quotes in this and your other blog already cover everything more or less "civil". After first stickers Mowry continues with murder, terrorism, sabotage; usual war stuff. This is not surprising, since the wasp concept is in itself nothing new. The soviet military secret service had trained whole divisions of "diversanty" and the whole cold war is full of "wasps" and proxy terror.

The problem as I see it is that the use of civil resistance techniques for a military goal automatically "militarizes" the instrument. E.g. a technique used in civil resistance and non-violent actions will become a military technique if used for such aims. This is by the way the huge problem of military civil cooperation as development aid became part of counterinsurgency.

Concerning civil resistance in science fiction. I was very much inspired by Lloyd Biggle Jr's "The Still, Small Voice of Trumpets" (1968). His vision of the IPR Bureau, whose motto is “Democracy imposed from without is the severest form of tyranny” and whose work is to bring newly discovered planets up to the point where they have a planetary democratic government, is a must read for everyone in the field of democracy promotion. (He further develops the IPR in "The World Menders" (1971)

Also a nice read with interesting ideas on the fight of native movements against transnational companies and their armada of law-firms is Lloyd Biggle's "Monument" (1961/1974)

somewhat apropos to several of your tactical points above, i’d refer you to a brief scenario i posted in a speculative roundtable in 2010 about “afghanistan 2050” at:

http://chicagoboyz.net/archives/15063.html

the scenario — which pertains to my interests in networks vs. tribes —involves activists operating drones, and begins as follows:

“The dozen BOIDS — small ultra-quiet stealthy long-range aerial DIY drones designed to swarm against an adversary’s OODA loops — idled in range of the target, undetected, waiting for a signal that the first stone was being cast. Ten of the drones were piloted remotely by individuals who had paid large sums to train and participate in what they were about to do: stone the stoners. … ”

if not enlightening, maybe you’ll at least find it amusing. onward.
