Hemp Oil vs. CBD Oils: Differences and Similarities

hemp oil vs cbd oils

Hemp oil and CBD oil are buzzwords in the natural health and well-being scene. Many assume they are the same since both products come from hemp plants. But while there are a couple of similarities, there are also some significant differences that consumers should be aware of.

The situation is complicated further by the fact that some companies market their CBD oil as hemp oil for legal purposes. We aim to provide some clarity and explain the key differences and similarities between hemp oil and CBD oil.

What Is Hemp Oil?

Hemp oil is a general term for oil extracted from hemp plants. In most cases, it refers to hemp seed oil. It is extracted from the plant’s seeds, which are rich in beneficial fatty acids, essential vitamins, and minerals. It is usually marketed as a health food, and people use it to give a wholesome boost to recipes such as soups, salad dressings, and smoothies.

Hemp seed oil differs from CBD oil, as we will explain below. However, some manufacturers market their CBD oil as hemp oil for legal reasons. Therefore, it is essential for customers to read the label carefully when buying hemp oil to find out what kind of product is on sale.

What Is CBD Oil?

Like hemp seed oil, CBD oil comes from hemp plants. However, it is extracted from the flowers, leaves, and stems rather than the seeds. These parts are rich in cannabidiol (CBD) and other bioactive chemicals called cannabinoids and terpenes.

Research has shown that CBD has a range of benefits, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotectant properties. People use it for various reasons, including relieving pain and anxiety and supporting healthy sleep cycles. Explore the potential benefits further, and consider products like CBG for a holistic approach to wellness.

Broad-spectrum CBD oils contain other hemp-based goodies alongside CBD and are thought to offer additional benefits. Those hoping to enjoy these benefits should ensure that they purchase

CBD-rich hemp oil rather than hemp seed oil. While the latter is still a healthy treat, it does not have the same therapeutic potential as CBD.

Hemp Oil and CBD Oil: Similarities and Differences

The only real similarity between hemp oil and CBD oil is that they come from the same plant. They both have a similar colour, ranging from golden to greenish brown, and an earthy, slightly bitter taste.

The most critical difference between hemp oil and CBD oil is that they are created using different parts of the hemp plant. They contain different active components and have different benefits for health.

As we mentioned, hemp seed oil is packed with essential fatty acids, including an optimal ratio of omega 3 and omega 6. It also has a broad range of vitamins and minerals.

On the other hand, CBD oil contains chemicals called cannabinoids and terpenes. CBD is the most plentiful cannabinoid in CBD oil, but it may also contain cannabigerol (CBG), cannabichromene (CBC), and cannabinol (CBN). Broad-spectrum CBD oil does not contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the intoxicating compound in cannabis.

Hemp oil does not contain THC either. Therefore, neither hemp oil nor CBD oil will not get you high.

Final Thoughts on Hemp Oil vs. CBD Oils

Although some manufacturers label their CBD oil as hemp oil, this is a legal requirement, and this product is very different from the hemp seed oil you might find on supermarket shelves.

While both have health benefits, only CBD hemp oil contains therapeutic cannabinoids and terpenes. Therefore, it is essential to know what’s in a product before buying it. Read the ingredients list carefully to ensure that you are getting the version of hemp oil that meets your needs.

You should also search for a reputable supplier that provides certificates of analysis for its hemp products. These documents tell you how much CBD and other active compounds are in the oil and prove that there are no contaminants or unnecessary additives.

Finally, please note that although it is generally considered safe, CBD can cause some side effects and interact with certain medicines. Therefore, it is crucial to consult a knowledgeable healthcare professional before using CBD hemp oil for the first time to ensure it suits you.
